Music Used in Advertisements
Written by Sahana Gokul
We’ve all watched ads. They’re everywhere! We see them in newspapers, magazines, and billboards. In recent decades, companies have gone digital in their marketing strategy, using online and video ads to promote products. Because of this transition, some of the most important advertisements today are those that we watch and hear, such as those in the radio, social media, or television. Have you ever noticed the background music playing in those ads? This music is used by companies to make consumers want to buy a certain product more!
Brands that are marketing their products spend a lot of time on their music. Memorable tunes and slogans used in advertising are called jingles, and because they are so catchy, we tend to have them playing in our minds often! When we repeatedly hear them, we grow fond of them and gain an emotional connection to the jingle. This helps us build trust in the product and brand, making us more likely to invest our money in them. Companies that don’t include music, or play music that the audience doesn’t favor, may discourage possible customers from buying the product.
Aside from advertising products, music can also help increase customer satisfaction in the service industry. When going for a haircut, a salon may play quiet music in the background to help customers relax. This music may affect us more than we realize., because if we are calm and satisfied, we may tip the barber more.
